Ospital ng Tondo has been temporarily closed after 32 healthcare workers have been confirmed infected with COVID-19, Manila City Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso announced on Friday, August 14.

Domagoso said he has approved the request of Ospital ng Tondo to be temporarily closed for ten days after more health workers tested positive for COVID-19.

The Mayor said that closure will give way for sanitation activities and to give a “breathing space” to all medical staff in the city district hospital.

“So para maka-relax, ma-ease the burden na ang pasyente ay doctor na rin, pasyente ay nurse na rin at mabigyan sila ng panahon na maka-recover… at makapagpahinga na rin,” Domagoso said.

Domagoso added that he will sign the official request letter from hospital Director Dra. Myrna Lacson-Paloma on the temporary closure within the day.

The Mayor noted that those already confined at Ospital ng Tondo, including COVID-19 patients, will continue to receive assistance from hospital staff.

Due to the closure of Ospital ng Tondo, only emergency situations will be accepted during the closure, but other incoming patients will be referred to the remaining five district hospitals of the city.
