LOOK: Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso signed Ordinance 8788 creating the Local Council on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children.

Domagoso said on Wednesday, November 24, that the signing of the ordinance was a historic win for the nation’s capital.

The Mayor will be the chairman of the council, while Manila City Vice Mayor Doktora Honey Lacuna will be the Vice Chairman.

Under Ordinance 8788, “the Council shall be tasked to institute policies and programs to protect women and children who are victims of trafficking and violence. It shall create and establish systems of surveillance, investigation, and rescue.”

The Council shall also disseminate information and hold education and advocacy campaign on human trafficking and violence against women and children.

The signing of Ordinance 8788 was made in line with the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women that will start on Thursday, November 25.
