UPDATE: Two construction workers dead after Sogo Hotel branch collapses

Authorities on Monday, September 23, confirmed that two construction workers have died after a budget hotel in Malate, Manila collapsed.

The remains of the construction workers have already been brought to the Ospital ng Maynila.

Following the incident, Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced that an investigation into the incident would be carried out.

The budget hotel branch in Malate, Manila which was due for demolition collapsed at around 9:30 am, according to first responders.

“Liability will come later, we’ll find out. I will task the City Engineer’s Office to find out if there is fault,” Domagoso said.

“For the meantime, we don’t want to accuse anybody until may makita kaming pagkukulang sa part ng Sogo, or contractor ng demolition. The documents are with the city engineering already and ine-examine na kanina pang umaga,” he added.

The Mayor also extended his condolences to the bereaved family members.

“We are very sorry to the family. Nakikiramay po kami, nakikiramay po ang Lungsod ng Maynila,” Domagoso said.
