The Manila City Council has approved Resolution No. 312 adopting the Manila Tourism and Cultural Development Plan 2020-2025.
During a regular session held on Thursday, December 10, the council approved the plan which highlights the tourism policies, strategies, programs, projects and activities created to realize the city’s vision to become “a world-class capital city.”Under the plan, Manila City Tourism Officer Charlie Duñgo said the local government envisions to become a “World-Class Capital City of Rich Heritage, Distinct Character and Diverse Huns of Knowledge with its Capable and Committed People Putting God First in Forging Partnerships to Harness these Urban Assets for Green, Resilient, Inclusive, Smart and Sustainable Development, Linking the Nation to the World and Inspiring the Hopes of the Filipino People.”
In addition, the Manila City Council also recognized the efforts carried out by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila led by Mr. Duñgo to promote and enrich the tourism sector of the nation’s capital.The resolution was sponsored by Majority Floor Leader and Third District Councilor Atty. Joel Chua as well as Third District Councilor and Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism Pamela ‘Fa’ Fugoso.“Malalim ang kahulugan ng pagpapaganda. Kapag may turismo, may investors. Kapag may investors, may trabaho.
Kapag may trabaho, may pagkain,” Majority Floor Leader Chua said in a statement.In addition, Councilor Fugoso also encouraged not only her fellow councilors but also the general public to support the tourism development plan.“Sana po ay suportahan natin itong Tourism Plan, nakita naman natin na maganda ang ginagawa ng DTCAM at ang nangyayari sa ating lungsod. Nagpapasalamat ako sa DTCAM na walang sawa na nagsusulong ng mga plano para sa pagsasaayos ng ating lungsod,” Councilor Fugoso said.Likewise, the Manila City Council also incorporated the tourism and cultural heritage zones in line with the ongoing efforts to update the Comprehensive Land Use Plan which will be enacted through a zoning ordinance.
