The City of Manila launched on Saturday, November 21, its first Children’s Congress in a bid to uphold the rights and welfare of every Batang Maynila.

The launching was done in observance of the 2020 National Children’s Month with the theme “Sama-Samang Itaguyod ang Karapatan ng Bawat Bata sa Panahon ng Pandemya.”

Leading the launch were Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Manila Field Office and the Manila Council for the Protection of Children (MCPC) which is currently being chaired by Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

“The City of Government of Manila will continue to uphold the rights and welfare of every child inside and outside of the city most especially during a public health crisis such as the one we are in right now,” MDSW Director and MCPC Vice Chairperson Re Fugoso said.

“We also firmly believe that providing social services to them and their families should be the way to go so as to ensure a better future for our country at large,” Director Fugoso added.

Child Representatives from the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) as well as Councilor Roma Robles and Col. Narciso Domingo of the Manila Police District attended the event.

Also in attendance are representatives from Manila Youth Development Council (MYDC), Youth Development and Welfare Bureau (YDWB), SK Federation, Division of City Schools-Manila and NGOs Asmae and Plan International.

Meanwhile, a series of activities in commemoration of the 2020 National Children’s Month will also be conducted in the city.

This will include a Children’s Rights Workshop and a talent contest for daycare pupils. —SNO/HM
