THIS MORNING: The newly-redeveloped Lagusnilad Underpass has been inaugurated by the Manila City government on Monday, August 24.
Manila City Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official launch of the modernized underpass.
The redevelopment of the underpass was designed by alumni from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), namely Arch. Juanito Malaga, UST graduates John Fallorina, Sean Ortiz and Leon Tuazon in collaboration with the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW).
The redevelopment commenced in November 2019. Key issues such as flooding, vagrants and security have been addressed with key agencies such as DPWH-NCR, Manila City Security Office and Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila (DTCAM).
The underpass will have 24/7 security, composed of designated security personnel and CCTV cameras connected to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) command center.
The mural and the bas-relief artwork was created in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and NCCA Gerilya artists inspired from the works of famed artist Botong Francisco.
The Lagusnilad Underpass is part of the Lawton development master plan which already commenced construction. The master plan includes Arroceros up until the Lagusnilad Underpass. —JNL
