Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Monday, January 13, ordered the arrest of Chinese national Cai Chang Fen and two other suspects following the seizure of almost five tons of contraband meat worth P15 million at San Fernando St., Binondo, Manila.
“Ikulong n’yo ‘yan, kahit Chinese pa sila! Kasuhan n’yo, ‘wag n’yong tatantanan. Akala yata ng mga ‘to eh matotolonges tayo,” the Mayor said.
“You are taking this city lightly. Akala n’yo kasi you can always pay the people in the government and the enforcement units. We are not afraid of you,” he added.
Assorted frozen meat including pork, beef, chicken, and fish, as well as exotic meat from sea turtles, lizards, sea horses and sea lions were confiscated by the Manila Veterinary Inspection Board.
The suspects will face several charges including violation of RA 10536 (Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines), RA 10611 (Food Safety Act), and RA 9147 (Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act).
Domagoso also warned that the city government will issue immediate closure and sanction to businesses involved in illegal activities.
“If you will do business in Manila, you will do it legitimately. I told you I will go after you, sinabi ko na sa inyo na huhulihin ko kayong lahat,” he firmly said.
