LOOK: The Manila City government on Thursday, January 23, signed an agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and Maynilad for ‘Kubeta Ko’ project at the Diamond Hotel, Manila.
Present during the event with Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso were Supreme Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta, Senator Cynthia Villar, DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, DOT Secretary Berna Puyat, DA Undersecretary and BFAR Chief Eduardo Gongona.
The ‘Kubeta Ko’ project is a joint effort to provide safe and appropriate sanitation services for the urban poor, in line with the national government’s mandate to immediately rehabilitate Manila Bay.
DENR will provide P10 million funding for the city government’s implementation.
The project will utilize Loowatt toilets, a container-based sanitation system with a waterless film flush, which eliminates the need of water pipes or connection to sewerage systems.
It is targeted to help reduce the environmental pollution from 400 informal settlement households.
Domagoso thanked the national government, the partners and stakeholders for the initiative.
“Salamat po at binigyan n’yo ng pansin ang Maynila. Our next projects will focus on rehabilitation and open green spaces,” the mayor said.
