Distribution of P1,000 allowance for PLM, UdM students begins

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday, January 28, led the initial distribution of student allowance under the Social Amelioration program of the city government in partnership with GCash.

The allowance will be automatically credited to the students’ registered GCash account. Qualified students from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Universidad de Manila will receive P1,000 while public school Grade 12 students will receive P500 monthly.

Domagoso encouraged the students to use their allowance wisely and to focus on their studies.

“Mayroon kayong pandagdag, pantustos, gamitin n’yo ito sa talagang pangangailangan n’yo, tungo sa pag-aaral. All you have to do now is to excel on your field of undertaking,” he said.

Likewise, he also emphasized that the benefits from the program are part of the city government’s initiative, funded by the taxpayers and the people of Manila.

“Huwag kayong makakalimot. Tandaan ninyo, ang nagpapa-aral sa inyo ay taumbayan. You owe it to the people of Manila. You don’t owe it to me. We politicians come and go, but the institution will stay. Always bear that in mind,” the Mayor said.

“You don’t owe any politician. It is our job, not only to work eight hours a day but also to find ways to excel from it. If the people benefited from those innovations, new approach to policies and programs, that is part of our job,” he added.
