Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso was the keynote speaker at the “Sikhay Laban sa Korapsyon (SiLaK): A Public Accountability Summit Against Corruption” held at the Diamond Hotel on Monday, December 9.

In his speech, Domagoso noted the unfortunate fall of Manila as its neighboring cities rose to progress.

“For twenty agonizing years, nobody saw a clear road of Recto. People had labeled me, ‘Nagpapakilala lang ‘yan, bago mag-Pasko babalik rin mga vendors dyan.’ Matatapos na ang Pasko, hindi parin sila nakakabalik —but don’t get me wrong, we appropriated some part of the roads for the vendors because of compassion, not tolerance,” the Mayor said.

He also highlighted the city government’s efforts to weed out corruption.

“We’re doing the best we can to start cleaning up among ourselves,” he said.

The Mayor assured everyone that he would continue to do his best for the capital.

“Hindi ako magiging mapang-api o mapang-abuso. Hindi ako laging tama ngunit pipilitin kong laging maging makatwiran,” Domagoso said.
