Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Thursday, July 4 signed a memorandum of agreement with Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) to grant a 50% tuition discounts for the city’s residents.
Under the memorandum, 12 residents from each barangay in the nation’s capital may apply for the scholarship.
Present during the signing were the new Manila Mayor, Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, City Councilor Princess Abante, and officials from the Manila Liga ng mga Barangay.
Also present were EAC president Dr. Jose Paulo Campos, EAC marketing chief Robin Reyes, EAC student affairs head Estefanio Boquiron, and EAC vice president for administration Dr. Lorenzo Lorenzo.
Lei Lacuna, president of the Manila Liga ng mga Barangay, said that the memorandum intends to bring the scholarship program down to the communities through her office.
Sixth District Councilor Princess Abante said students may qualify if they are first-time enrollees at EAC, provided that they pass the entrance exam if they are freshmen, of that they pass the assessment for transferees.
“Qualifiers for the scholarship may apply for any course or program at EAC except medicine programs,” said Abante, who chairs the Committee on Education and Sports at the Manila City Council.
“12 slots will be opened in each of Manila’s 896 barangays. They only need to get endorsements from the Liga ng mga Barangay,” she said.
Grantees of the scholarship, Abante said, should have no grade lower than 80 percent every semester. The scholarship is inclusive of two regular semesters and may only be availed during regular offered classes, she added.
