Manila City Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso on Monday, February 15 said the local government is still studying the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases to ease restrictions in cinemas, theme parks, arcades and museums.

The IATF said it has allowed these places to reopen under general community quarantine or GCQ. It also allowed driving schools, libraries and cultural centers to resume operations. Capacity for religious gatherings was also increased to 50-percent.

In a chance interview after the flag-raising event this morning, Domagoso said the city government would consult first the Manila Health Department (MHD) and the city’s mall owners about the IATF recommendation.

“Kailangan na makonsulta namin ‘yung aming mga medical frontliners lalo na ang MHD: Ano bang epekto? May technical study na ba talaga?” Domagoso told reporters.

“Second, ano naman ang gagawin ng theater owners na mga precautionary measures? We are open to the idea, pero ayaw namin na magkabiglaan lang,” he said.

The Mayor said that “tough preparation and responsibility” was needed on the matter.

“Pinag-aaralan pa namin kasi while it is true that we wanted to open businesses, are they ready to come up with a plan yung katulad ng cinema o yung mga nabanggit? Hindi naman po pwede na bibiglain natin. Kailangan responsable pa rin,” Domagoso said.

“While it is true that we really wanted to move on, kailangan lang maging responsable kasi syempre may concern rin naman yung ibang tao,” he added.

Precautionary measures to be implemented in these public places, particularly in cinemas, have to be considered first to protect the general public, Domagoso said.

“Kailangan lang, laging may paghahanda. Kailangan maging responsable at paghandaan, hindi yung dati na normal talaga na dikit dikit. Remember this is an enclosed area, a person or a group of individuals will stay for a at least an hour in one enclosed area,” Domagoso said.

The Mayor also assured the public of the local government’s continuous support to uplift the business sector which was severely affected by the pandemic.

“Gusto kong makapaghanap buhay ang tao, gusto kong may trabaho ang tao, gusto kong makapaghanap buhay ang tao, gusto kong mag normalize yung buhay ng tao, but this is a very challenging task but we are trying to really do it in such a manner na may kaakibat na responsibilidad,” he said. —MPIO
